Memoria Exchange Choices

A long awaited feature is finally added to Tales of Crestoria and that is the return of Limited Quest Memoria stones, allowing players to get stones that have been released in the past from previous events. This is done by exchanging the new tickets Memoria Stone Exchange Ticket for the Memoria stone of your choice. SSR stone will cost a total of 10 tickets and SR stone will cost a total of 2 tickets. So if you’re looking to fully max ascend a stone, then it will cost a total of 60 tickets for SSR stones and 12 tickets for SR stones. So keep that in mind when you’re planning to exchange for these stones, as it can get pretty costly depending on what you want to exchange the stones for.

There are multiple choices that any player can do depending on the situation as well as what they’re planning to use the stones for:

  • Used for collecting missing stones: This is useful for any players who have missed previous events (Up to Suzu at the time of writing) and would like to max a copy of that stone.
  • Used to level up uncompleted stones: This is similar to the first, but it will allow players to max out the stone that they didn’t complete within the Limited Quest time frame.
  • Used to level up extra copies obtained or having a second copy: As with all things, RNG can happen and you find yourself having an extra copy of the stone. This can be used to complete those copies that have dropped randomly, on another note, this can be used to create another stone so that you can have two strong stones as well. I.E. Patty [Summer Treasure Hunt!] having a second copy can increase your character’s damage thanks to the Torment effect.
  • Used to create an SSR/SR Grid: The last choice is for the ‘hardcore’ players and this is to create a strong grid that can be used for all of your teams or for your elemental teams. This options is only recommended if you’re willing to use all your resources on it or for other reasons. (Favourite character: Annie Grid! Yes, this is me, anything for Rebirth)

But what choices should we make, as we know it can be pretty limited at the time and it could be better to wait for newer event stones to be added to the exchange. Regardless, everyone plays the game differently and it’s really is dependent on the player. I’m going to have a total of three, yes THREE sections for stone choices. Since it is dependent on the player it’s best to list out almost every possible scenario in order to see what stone choices are good for a majority of the player. These three choices sections are as follows:

  • New Player Choices: Choices that will help out new players for long term gameplay.
  • Good Stone Choices for Character use: Stones that are excellent for use in actual battle such as the classic trio of Torment, Mastery & Invigorate.
  • Good Stone Choices for Grid: Stones that are excellent as mono-face? grid that can help out any team that you’re using or taking it a step further and improving your elemental teams further (this will be explained later).

Since these three sections are what I feel are going to be discussed a lot about, I’ll do my best to explain a lot of scenarios and why these stones are great choices. So let’s start off with new players in order to help them get started!

New Player Choices

New players or players who are coming back from a break will be the first of many people that will like to know what stones are worth picking up. I would go to say that these stones are pretty good and they’re relatively easy to get especially with the various ways to obtain the tickets for the exchange. These are from Arena medal exchange, Raid medal exchange and Phantom Tower medal exchange do note, that it has been mentioned that it can be obtained from Limited Quests within the next update so it’s good to know that it isn’t a limited resource per say but it’s best to use it on the stones that will help any player throughout the game. With that said, it’s now time to look at the stone choices that should be prioritised:

Patty [Summer Treasure Hunt!]

As one of the early event stones that has been released it is still one of the most useful stone in the game and it’s because it comes with one of the best offensive effect in the game: Torment. To make it better it is a universal effect, which means you can equip this stone to any character and they’ll still benefit from the effect. An example of this will be shown below:

Example Team Composition with Event Patty

We can see the following Earth mono team and it features the use of two Torment stones, the SSR Patty [Summer Treasure Hunt!] stone and the SR Farah [Upbeat Battler]. So why does Eizen have the event Patty stone, while Orwin gets the Farah stone, it’s pretty simple. Both effects are Torment but there is a difference one is exclusively used for martial-arts-type characters like Eizen and Orwin and the other is universal, since Orwin in this case has more ATK then our buddy Eizen he’ll get the Farah stone while Eizen gets the Patty stone. This is because Orwin would get the full benefits from the Farah stone while also receiving an additional 50% stat boost due to the elements matching. Eizen won’t get the additional stat gained like Orwin but he’ll still appreciate the Patty stone purely for the effect allowing him to hit just as hard as Orwin.

So while this information is nice to know, I guess the question that might be lingering is: ‘what the hell does Torment do?!’ Well if you haven’t seen from the picture earlier, it basically means that your character’s CRIT damage is amplified further by the % number given from the stone. So we can understand why this is very strong for any players, basically it can make your hardest hitting characters hit even harder. Due to the Water element attached it’s a very strong stone for Water characters in general but due to the effect being universal it is an excellent stone and is probably the first stone choice that I will consider that any new players to pick up.

Stahn [The Present of Her Dreams]

The next best stone to grab is most definitely Stahn [The Present of Her Dreams] this is because it has one of the best stone effects in the game as well: Invigorate granting you additional OL every turn (limited to Earth characters). This stone makes some of the strongest Earth support characters to be used much more easily, allowing them to reach the designated T3 sweet spot. Two of the biggest Earth support characters that make use of this is Yuri [At Yesteryear’s Window] and Milla [Dashing Through the Sky]:

Yuri is Earth’s premier Hit Generator as he’s able to bring the hit count up very easily thanks to his Mystic Arte and artes overall. Yuri will appreciate the Stahn stone a lot allowing him to charge his long OL cost to that sweet spot of T3, this is only possible with two event stones that are available from the exchange. Obviously the consistent choice is the Stahn stone, while the other choice is the Assault choice which is Mint [Halloween Night Party] but this choice does require Gnome’s Spirit Board to ensure the T3 timing, however it does offer a little more ATK should you want to make use of it.

Mint [Halloween Night Party]

Milla is in the same boat as Yuri as she wants to use her Mystic Arte as often as possible due to it being a party-wide heal that also gives CRIT rate. 230 OL cost is a pretty steep for a heal but it can be charged quickly thanks to the Stahn stone, she does have a lot of OL panels so it could be a case of gaining too much OL, but since it’s a heal it’s actually not a bad idea to continuously gain OL in order to get more heals. There is so many characters that can make use of Stahn’s event stone, and it is definitely going to be a long term stone for a good while. Players who have Milla as their main healer should ideally pick this up as soon as possible as you’ll benefit a lot from the CRIT rate buff and the healing

Believe it or not, those two stones are the only ones I consider really worth grabbing if you’re a new player as they can enhance your character’s by a lot. There are some other good choices if you’re looking for more on-element choices to get the bonus stats but there are readily available stones that players can use in their place. I’ll list some of these here, but I think ensuring consistency and CRIT damage are very important to get through a lot of the harder content early. The other reason why I haven’t listed some of the stronger stones, is because it’s more limited in uses and are only used to amplify a character’s strength. This is where I’m going to go through stones that are good to pick up for use in battle. For the other choices for new players to potentially consider, they’ll be shown here:

Good Choices for Character use

As the heading suggest, these are stone options that you might want to consider for use in battle and are considered exceptionally strong to amplify your character’s overall use. There is going to be a lot of choices, so it’s best to consider which ones might be worth going for and which one would help improve your teams. These can of course be substituted for other stones, but since most of these stones are focused on specific elements it does help to power up your character’s damage output or overall usability by giving them utility stones.

Shirley [Suspense! Tales of Disbelief]

While it wasn’t a choice for new players to specifically pick out, it is a choice here due to how offensive the stone is. Giving Fire characters a nice boost to their Mystic Arte damage is really good and can easily help with breaking BREAK gauge from bosses. I’m recommending Shirley [Suspense! Tales of Disbelief] for the most part compared to Magilou [Magilou’s Curtain Call Chaos] due to two reasons, the first is that Shirley’s stats are mostly better than Magilou’s and the second is that the effect is better as you’re increasing your damage as opposed to Magilou’s where you’re doing increased reduction on the BREAK gauge. An example of two Shirley stone users can be seen below:

Fire Team with two Shirley stone

As we can see we have two Shirley stone and two Hisui stone (Unavailable from the exchange at the time of writing) and the aim is to make it so that Luke and Stahn break the BREAK gauge in order for Kohaku and Mao to do a lot of damage with their Torment stone. Now an argument could be made to use the Magilou stone to break it faster, but it’s more efficient to use a Mastery stone over a Weakness stone as with Mastery you’re not only increasing your Mystic Arte damage you also in theory increase your BREAK gauge damage as well. This makes Mastery worth using and having another copy can definitely help with breaking the gauge while also increasing your overall damage output.

Since Luke and Stahn are earlier they won’t benefit from Torment stones as much (unless they CRIT) so using Mastery or even Onslaught can definitely improve your damage. Luke gets extra benefits from this because he’s mainly a Hit Generator so using a damage stone can allow him to do a little more damage while also fulfilling his role as the Hit Generator for the team. Shirley is an excellent stone option to go for another copy of, or just to collect a stone that was missing.

Chelsea [Love’s Arrow Loosed]

Chelsea is pretty much the same as Shirley except for Water the reasoning is pretty much the same as Shirley. So if you want more info for Chelsea, pretty much go back to Shirley and re-read it. The only real difference is that it’s for Water which is good if your Water team is lacking in damage overall.

Example of Chelsea stone on School Ludger

Similar in theory, Ludger isn’t the hardest hitting Hit Generator but using the Chelsea stone can definitely give him the extra push in damage that he might need to help break the BREAK gauge. The other Hit Generator is Rokurou and he’s probably one of the best users of it due to having higher ATK and having a respectable Mystic Arte multiplier, while also offering a beefy DEF down on the enemy. This makes Chelsea worth chasing for if your Water team is lacking damage overall.

Yes, Assault stones are the other great options to have around and is extremely useful in Arena in order to fire off Mystic Artes much quicker. While Mint’s one isn’t the strongest choice, it’s still a pretty good choice overall and is relatively cheap to get going. Having a respectable amount of OL gained is certainly not bad for characters that wouldn’t mind to fire off the Mystic Artes on T1 (assuming the investment is made: Guild boost, Max characters etc.) like Aegis [Pledging Peace at Sea] being able to have a strong ATK buff opening is along with one of his artes can quickly swing things in your favour.

So it would be no surprise that both Spada [Say It with Flowers] and Suzu [Meakyu, Lost in the Blossoms] are great options due to more OL gained as well as having overall strong stats. Both of these stones can allow characters to use their Mystic Artes much more quickly in Arena as the main appeal is that Mystic Artes can’t miss meaning they are a perfect way to deal with Evasion teams. A character that is great with the Suzu stone is Arietta [Song of Pathos]:

Arietta [Song of Pathos]

Suzu will give her literally half her OL which is great to be able to use Big Bang almost immediately on T1. The catch is for to T1 properly with Suzu stone is that she has to have either the two options: a finishing blow on T1 from Bloody Howling this would give +15 additional OL from the standard 50 OL allowing to T1 with Big Bang. The second option is to have a max Mithos [Where His Path Ends] or Lilith [A Smile in Full Bloom] both giving some form of OL acceleration that Arietta can benefit from allowing her to use either Bloody Howling or Sharpness without needing to worry about additional OL gained from finishing blow.

Anise [Pretty Bunny]

Similar to Arietta, Anise the irony can perform a similar role with the Spada stone this would give her 66 OL meaning that she would need to get an additional 94 OL from team support or other methods. Since she has OL panels her standard actions will be 62 meaning that she would realistically only need an additional 32 OL from team support. This can be done from maxing her for her Awakened skill, as well as Misella [Everburning Resolve] and a max Lilith [A Smile in Full Bloom]. A little more work compared to Arietta but Anise can fulfil the role of a character charging their Mystic Arte in order to hit the enemy without fail.

Assault are also not limited to Arena they can also be used to speed the process of farming items that you might need. An article of that can be found here, but basically OL acceleration is really good and any form of it is going to be a boon to have around.

I don’t want to make it all about the SSR stones, but there are some noteworthy SR stones that may be worth considering to pick up either to just have a copy or because they’re really cheap and can be useful. Although I’ve mentioned that Mastery tends to have the edge over Weakness the Lilith [The Present of Her Dreams] stone is a little different mainly because it has a really high ATK stat for an SR stone and is pretty useful to help Break enemy BREAK gauge. The main thing it’s got going is the high ATK stat and that’s generally what matters when you’re trying to break gauges.

Guy [Late-Summer Sunflower] is a unique case where it comes with a Resist skill and it’s usually considered not useful for the most part. But a lot of the earlier event stones were universal meaning that this stone is no exception, it can help in making your character be immune (when it works) to the ailment allowing them to not be weakened by Burn damage. Of course there are better alternatives, but it’s still a relatively good choice that is useful for early game progression.

Raven [A Green and Swarmy Night] and Elle [Battle Katz! Klash of Pawz] are two SR stone that comes with great effects, basically in a nutshell, effective stones that are very cheap to build up and be useful from the get-go. Nothing much really needs to be said, other than it can be replaced by other options that are summonable like Kyle [Innocent Swordsman] and Genis [Kendama Battler] respectively.

Some other options to consider are seen below, but these have more of a different use and is harder to pick them over some of the other stone options available. That doesn’t mean they’re bad, it just means it’s harder to find a use for them. The three stones that are worth considering are Annie [Scents of Intrigue], Anise [Anise and Pals, To and Fro] and Rubia [Intertwining Journeys]. Annie is used for more of a defensive set-up and is useful in long battles like Transcendent Battles, Anise is great for Arena if you want to keep one of your key Earth characters alive and Rubia is useful in battles that has Paralysis namely speaking the permanent Melanbron raid.

Good Grid Choices

This is probably the section that many people are curious about, and it’s probably no surprise as to why. As previously you would have to have a lot of gels saved up for the right event, and the fact that you’ll most likely have to use Gleamstones in order to farm up an event grid. But with this you can essentially work on a SSR/SR grid of your choice depending on what you’re looking for. Since essentially each Phantom Tower reset will give enough medals for one full copy of a past event stone, and being available in other content, it’s a great way to build up a grid that you’re looking into. Is this even necessary, honestly not really, it’s definitely great to have but it doesn’t make some of the harder content any easier. It just means you’ll likely be having the extra stats needed in order to beat some of the harder content. Of course, if you really want to look for a strong grid, then this is probably the quickest and easiest way to get a grid of your choice.

The main reason to look for an elemental grid in particular is to get the smallest extra stat boost that honestly doesn’t do much at the moment. That’s because the main reason is, there hasn’t been a content that has required a SSR grid, in my case it’s more of a long term goal and it’s just look really pretty. But other than that, pursue this option if you want to improve your elemental team a little more.

I’m going to go over every element and going through what I believe are the best SSR grids to go for in each element at the moment. Let’s go through them:

Fire

Ruca [Panic! Library Ruckus]

This is in my opinion the strongest grid you can get from the exchange for Fire, It comes with great stats and has one of the best grid bonuses in the game. Longsword comes with the grid bonuses 14%/18%/14% (HP/ATK/DEF respectively) and it’s actually a very good choice for a grid for any team. The main competition is Alvin [Barrage of Bullets] which is freely available and is something that can be done, although it is a time sink. Between the two, I’m giving the slight edge to Ruca due to having better HP in exchange for a little less ATK but overall they’re both serviceable as a Fire grid.

Ruca is a really nice Tanky grid with a little bit offensive allowing Fire characters to be a little more deceptively bulky. When you combine this with Luke [Shaken in the Wagon] and Misella [The Blazing Bloom] then it does end up making Fire teams a lot more bulky then they really are. Overall Ruca is a great Fire grid for those that are looking for a grid from the exchange specifically. For those that still want a Fire grid there is always the readily available Alvin who is definitely still a great option to use.

Earth

Farah [Lure of the Forest Fruit]

Out of all of the Earth grids you can make from the exchange, the best one is probably Farah’s one as there isn’t many choices to choose from. Farah is still a pretty good grid though, to Martial Arts bonus which is 18%/14%/14% which is more of the bulky side but still giving a respectable amount of ATK and DEF. Farah has a nice balanced stat spread all round which makes it pretty good grid, the only thing that I feel it lacks is that it’s not focused on a particular stat enough to go with it which makes it not as useful as an overall grid. For an Earth team particularly though, it will do pretty way and will fit with an Earth composition.

Does it have competition, yes there are a few options to work on, the first is Guild Karol which you can generally get pretty easily and it can be worked on overtime. The main thing it has over Farah is more ATK and a better grid bonus due to the weapon type. Beryl [Colors of Blue Sky] is the other competition but that focuses a lot more on DEF which is something Earth is really good at, so Farah is like a balance between the two grids. Overall Farah is a good balanced grid and is useful in many situations.

Wind

Spada [Say It with Flowers]

This is probably the easiest choice for a Wind grid due to the other options lacking ATK but Spada is a really good grid due to Dualblades typing which is a common weapon type and can be mixed and match with many others stones. It comes with a 10%/17%/17% type bonus and the main thing it has going for it is that it can be mixed with Julius [Bolt from an Ashen Sky] as they share the same element as well as the same weapon typing. Meaning that it is relatively easy to make a Wind grid as you can mix and match Julius and Spada easily.

However, if you’re planning to go for a specific character grid, then Spada has the edge by having a more offensive stat spread and it goes well with Wind which is generally a defensive element. Overall there isn’t much to say other than, this is a good grid and is worth going for due to it being a common weapon type, and it’s also a good stone for use as well due it being an Assault stone.

Water

Chelsea [Love’s Arrow Loosed]

For Water I believe Chelsea is the grid that is worth going for and it’s reason is mainly the same as Ruca it has a relatively good type bonus as well as having a good stat spread for it. Bow gives the bonus of 20%/14%/10% which is what Chelsea’s stone stats lean towards making it fulfil the entire type bonus to the fullest. However, the event stone that isn’t in the exchange at the time of writing Presea [Two Travelers, One Scheme] is no slouch for Water grid as it has one of the highest ATK as well as the high ATK type bonus from being an Axe weapon type. This is the main competition for Chelsea but in all honesty Chelsea might have the edge for the bulk factor over Presea.

Presea is really good to defeat things really quickly due to the stats and the Axe type bonus, but Chelsea I believe is going to be the stronger choice due to having more HP attached to it. This will make it a very good grid for Water and will help to make your team a lot bulkier but also having the ATK needed to deal a good amount of damage.

Light

Emil [Halloween Night Party]

Emil is an interesting case where the stats doesn’t match with the sword-type bonus where it focuses a lot on ATK rather than HP. But that’s exactly the main reason why this grid is actually good. Due to type bonus focusing on HP you’re essentially getting a little more extra HP despite the stone not having the HP stat. Basically you’ll benefit from the high ATK while also benefitting from the extra HP provided from the weapon type bonus. This makes it an overall strong grid and is a grid that Light can use effectively. An example of this grid can be seen below which showcases how the grid bonus as well as showing the stats (This is before Level 120).

Emil Grid

Kongwai at Level 100 has the following stats: 24,500 HP | 2,950 ATK | 2,950 DEF and we can see how the stats have actually helped him. He gains an incredible amount of HP while still gaining a good amount of ATK but not so much DEF. So if this what Emil grid looks like, you can expect the same if not similar results with the current event (at the time of writing) Kor [Neverending Halloween] stone which would give similar stats to this.

Overall I believe Emil is a good grid and is a good stone for filler purposes due to high ATK and being a common weapon-type that many players can use.

Dark

The last is going to be for the Dark element and I’ve listed two grids cause honestly, they’re both pretty good choices for Dark. The main negative about Dark is mostly that it is squishy and that the characters will probably end up dying pretty quickly, so to mitigate this potentially the best way to go about it is to make a grid that can give Dark the bulk it needs. Both Kanata and Leia offer good stat spread it mostly will depend on what you’re looking for. Kanata is going to be a little more offensive thanks to the Longsword type bonus while Leia I feel is going to be a little more balanced due to the Longstaff type bonus.

Kanata is the grid option I would lean towards simply because it has a good ATK stat along with a potentially better type bonus. This not only will give a good amount HP and ATK for Dark it can also be used as a good offensive stone choice as well. Overall though both grid are good choices it will just depend on what you’d prefer, Offensive or a little more Balanced.
